I thought I would do a follow-up to the Sugar is My Crack Cocaine post this morning. I am two weeks into my sugar detox and I can definitely feel the difference. My energy and focus is back. I feel revitalized once again. I am no longer sluggish and unorganized. My house is back to normal. I guess I was not aware of the truly devastating effects this substance had on me, until now.
The decision to take that week off and eat whatever I wanted at Christmas was a huge eye opener for me. I now know that not only can I not eat sugar in the form of cakes, cookies, candy and other treats, but I cannot ingest the array of sugar substitutes out there on the market, either. They both do the same thing to me. I lose my drive and my happiness. They through me back into the hunger loop, and I find myself, once again, unable to control the intense cravings for unhealthy foods. It’s not worth it.
I have found so many healthy ways to indulge my sweet tooth. I don’t need to turn to unnatural foods to do it. There are to many natural things I can have. One of my greatest discoveries is PB2. There are very little sugar and fat in two tablespoons that it doesn’t seem to be enough to spike my blood sugar levels and cause the intense cravings to return. It is amazing in my Chobani 0% non-fat yogurt, or drizzled over a cut up banana.
I am back and better than ever. Now it’s time to get ready for my Curves workout and my class with Jillian Michaels. 🙂
May you all have a happy and healthy day!
